Women in Transition

Men and women both face a plethora of transitions throughout their lives.  Major life transitions take an average of 5 years to complete. And while not an absolute, the female experience with transitions tends to be different than the male.

Generally speaking,

  • Women want to process while men want answers.

  • Women want time to "get it right", men want to move on

  • Women want to talk and learn, men want to get things done

Women tend to be better at tolerating the natural uncertainty and time it takes to complete a major life transition.

Types of Transitions

  • Loss of spouse

  • Loss of a parent

  • Empty nest

  • Leaving the workforce

  • Starting a family

  • Marriage

70% of women will change their money manager within one year of their husbands passing.

All transitions go through 4 phases, Anticipation, Ending, Passage, and New Normal.  When not managed correctly, they lead to undesirable outcomes (anxiety, irrational decisions, conflict, etc.). On the contrary, the uncertainty that comes from change can lead to significant growth in oneself, personal relationships, careers, and hobbies so long as the transition is properly addressed.

Empty Nest

After decades of focusing on raising children, it’s natural to feel a mix of sadness, loneliness, and uncertainty when they leave home. This period—known as Empty Nest Syndrome—can be emotionally challenging and begs the question of "What's next?"

With many vibrant years still ahead, this is not the time to simply drift into a routine of golf, yoga, and coffee dates—unless that’s truly your passion. Instead, it’s an opportunity to redefine your identity, rekindle your passions, and set a purposeful course for the next phase of life.

The attached Finding Purpose document provides a framework of discussion topics to foster one through this discovery.

SMALL GROUPS

Many of our clients describe the Empty Nest & Life Purpose Document as intense, thoughtful, scary, frustrating, and profound.

For many, the best way to process and reflect on the document is in a group setting. These discussions create a safe space to share insights, move ideas forward, and deepen relationships with others on a similar journey.

At Delante Systems, we can design and moderate group sessions focused on exploring and discovering your life purpose—helping you move from reflection to action with clarity and connection.
